The sun illuminated every corner of the land. In such a good environment grew three happy trees. As time passed by, these three trees gradually had thoughts and began to make plans for their futures. The first tree wished to be a treasure chest which could store gold and jewels for man. The second dreamed of becoming a big ship carrying the king to travel widely. The third wanted to grow into a gigantic tree to show forth the miraculous deeds of the Creator to man. As many years slipped away, these three trees had become fully mature.
The first tree was made into a manger. He felt very unhappy and thought: I wished to be a treasure chest, but now I’m nothing but a manger, living with animals every day. What a waste of my talent! The second tree was made into a small fishing boat, floating in the water day after day, which made him very depressed. The third tree was made into a cross, being tied together with sinners every day, which almost drove him crazy. These three trees all complained that their wishes didn’t come true, and couldn’t understand why God made them become fully matured but didn’t put them in important positions.
Later, right in this manger, the Lord Jesus was born, and He then brought the Age of Redemption to mankind; on this boat, the Lord Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom of heaven to people; on this cross, the Lord Jesus was nailed, and completed God’s work of redeeming mankind.
It is often said that “God has endowed me with talents for eventual use.” It just tells us that since God created all of us, we all have value and significance. We, like these three trees, grow up under God’s care and protection. When we have our own thoughts and master the survival skills, we will begin to make plans for our life. In fact, regardless of how we envisage the future, God has already arranged the fitting place for us before the ages. Under God’s sovereignty and arrangement, we may become a “manger,” a “small fishing boat” or a “cross.” Perhaps such arrangements depart from our lofty ideals, but if we can fulfill our responsibilities as created beings and serve God’s management plan, isn’t it the best and happiest thing to us? Isn’t this more valuable and meaningful than realizing our own ideals?
Here, I want to share a passage of words with you: “From the moment you come crying into this world, you begin to perform your duty. You assume your role in the plan of God and in the ordination of God. You begin the journey of life. Whatever your background and whatever the journey ahead of you, none can escape the orchestration and arrangement that Heaven has in store, and none are in control of their destiny, for only He who rules over all things is capable of such work. Since the day man came into existence, God has been steady in His work, managing this universe and directing the change and movement of all things. Like all things, man quietly and unknowingly receives the nourishment of the sweetness and rain and dew from God. Like all things, man unknowingly lives under the orchestration of God’s hand. The heart and spirit of man are held in the hand of God, and all the life of man is beheld in the eyes of God. Regardless of whether or not you believe this, any and all things, living or dead, will shift, change, renew, and disappear according to God’s thoughts. This is how God rules over all things”.
